Open our new season with two exceptional musicians whose warmth, imagination and instinctive rapport make every performance feel fresh and alive. Internationally acclaimed soloists Elena Urioste and Tom Poster are also true musical partners, playing with energy, sensitivity and an infectious enjoyment of making music together.

Their programme combines much-loved sonatas by Mozart and Franck with shorter French works by Saint-Saëns, Charlotte Sohy and Mélanie Bonis.

Programme Highlights

Mozart’s Violin Sonata in B-flat major, K. 454, opens the evening with elegance, warmth and wit. The violin and piano are equal partners in a lively and beautifully balanced musical conversation.

Then shorter French works offer a rich variety of moods: Saint-Saëns’s tender, lyrical Élégie, Charlotte Sohy’s imaginative Thème varié, and two graceful miniatures revealing the elegance and expressive warmth of French composer Mélanie Bonis.

César Franck’s Violin Sonata in A major, one of the best-loved works in the repertoire, brings the concert to a radiant conclusion. Intimate and contemplative one moment, passionate and radiant the next, the sonata carries the listener on a compelling emotional journey.

The Artists

Elena and Tom perform together extensively and are co-directors of the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective, which was appointed Associate Ensemble at Wigmore Hall in 2020.  During Covid lockdowns, their inventive #UriPosteJukeBox series brought 88 daily performances to audiences around the world and won a Royal Philharmonic Society Inspiration Award. The album it inspired received a BBC Music Magazine Award.

Reviewers consistently single out their closeness as a duo. MusicWeb International concluded: “Theirs is a true partnership.”
